Onuma Quasi-National Park

Located in Nanae Town, Kameda District, Hokkaido (approximately 3.5 hours by car from our accommodation), this park offers scenic beauty in every season. Enjoy activities like boating and canoeing, or go cycling or driving along the lakeside road. Water lilies bloom from July to August, and autumn foliage is spectacular in late October. By JR train, it's a direct 3-hour 20-minute journey from Sapporo Station, costing around $58.

Lake Toya

A beautiful caldera lake in Hokkaido (about 2 hours 15 minutes from our accommodation), formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 110,000 years ago. It's Japan's third-largest caldera lake, after Lake Kussharo and Lake Shikotsu. Activities include lake cruises, exploring Nakajima Island, and enjoying hand and foot baths. Seasonal events range from the Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Festival in summer to illumination tunnels in winter. JR train from Sapporo Station takes about 2 hours direct, costing around $39.

Cape Chikyu

Located in Muroran City, Hokkaido (about 1.5 hours from our accommodation), this cape is characterized by approximately 14 kilometers of dramatic cliffs, offering visitors an overwhelming panoramic view. The cape's observation deck provides a sweeping vista of the Pacific Ocean, sometimes even distant islands, making it a famous spot where you can truly feel the Earth's curvature. Particularly recommended on clear days when the Pacific Ocean stretches endlessly before you. By JR train from Sapporo Station, it's a direct 3-hour 15-minute journey, costing around $17.
